consisting of between 200-500 mostly tropical plants, Hoyas are native to part of Asia, the Philippines, Austria, New Guinea and Polynesia. These evergreen perennials typically are vining plants that often grow epiphytical on trees in their natural environment. Some Hoyas are considered succulents, but most are not. these plants love to stay cozy in their pots; root bound encourages flower production for Hoya plants. Once considered plants only fit for Grandma’s sitting room, Hoya’s have had a considerable Glow Up and are appreciated for their easy to care for attitude.

Location: keep in a warm, humidity indoor location with bright, non-direct light
Soil: This plant likes a lightweight, well-draining potting mix.
Watering: water weekly and let dry completely in between waterings. Water every 2 weeks in the winter months. Do not let Hoyas get too much water as their roots will rot.
Temps: Hoyas enjoy a warm and humid climate. Room temps between 65ºf - 80º F will do, but consider a humidifier or misting these plants often to help supplement humidity.
Propagating: these beauties propagate extremely well in water or soil from a stem cutting that includes a leaf node.
Toxic: Toxic to humans + pets
Pests + Diseases: common pests include mealybugs, aphids, and spider mites. Neem oil will help protect your Hoya from these pests. Common disease problems include root rot, fungal infections and Botrytis blight. Treat with fungicide, repotting, and sterilizing the previous pot.
Issues: leaf drop, leaf blackening, and stem dieback due to overwatering, improper temperatures, and dry spaces. Wilting can also be caused by too much watering which will cause root rot.
